The concept of a homemaker is gradually becoming obsolete as women want to make their own money and carve their careers after marriage as well. Even stay-at-home mothers are looking for side avenues for earning money by getting involved in enterprises that do not require them to leave their homes. A stay-at-home mom named Rachel from the UK has similarly found a way to balance her family life with a revenue-making side initiative that she started.

As a creative stay-at-home mother of two, Rachel has amassed over Rs 13 lakh in revenue since 2021 by turning her love of making earrings into a successful side business. Taking advantage of her kids’ naps, Rachel painstakingly creates one-of-a-kind earrings using Sculpey polymer clay, ink and white acrylic paint, which she then sells on Etsy for about £30 (Rs 3,000) a pair. Despite her family obligations, her hard work has led to the sale of almost 435 pairs, creating a successful online business.

Indonesia showcases nine jewelry MSMEs at Singaporean expo

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Trade Ministry, Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, and Bank of Indonesia (BI) collaborate to host Indonesian Pavilion that showcases nine micro, small, and medium enterprises at the Singapore International Jewelry Expo 2023 on July 13-16, 2023.

Director General of National Export Development at the ministry Didi Sumedi stated that jewelry has become one of Indonesia’s strategic commodities that hold significant contribution in bringing surplus in Indonesian exports in the past two years.

In the previous year, jewelry exports recorded a total value of US$6.3 billion, an increase by 7.12 percent as compared to the previous year, he noted.

“Of that export value, more than 20.4 percent is exported to Singapore, which makes Singapore the second-largest destination country for Indonesian jewelry,” he elaborated.

Sumedi opined that the potential of such positive trend must be tapped into for improving the performance of jewelry exports in future.

Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo stated that for the past few years, Indonesia had successfully established a comprehensive industrial products’ export roadmap, which highlights the downstreaming policy as its driving force.

According to Pratomo, Singapore is Indonesia’s most important partner on the regional scale in terms of jewelry.

Would-be robber, Chicago jewelry store worker who shot him both released

CHICAGO (CBS) — After a worker opened fire on a would-be robber at a jewelry store downtown this past weekend, police took both the worker and the robbery suspect into custody.

CBS 2 reached out to the person who fired the shot, and others inside a jewelry store at 1 N. Wabash Ave. along Jewelers Row. No one wanted to talk on camera, but CBS 2 Legal Analyst Irv Miller said this was a clear case of self-defense on the employee’s part.

The robbery happened just before 11 am Saturday.

Surveillance video shows the would-be robber, who wore a red sweatshirt, walking around for about a minute before he took off running toward the entrance.

He began to bash in a glass case, and that’s when the employee reached behind the counter and began shooting at the man before he tried to get away.

“The moment that person took an object and broke that glass, that person was committed a forcible felony,” said CBS 2 Legal Analyst Irv Miller. “He was no longer walking around checking the place out.”

RCMP warning public about men in suspicious vehicles selling jewelry

Manitoba RCMP is telling the public to be aware of an SUV that has been seen throughout southern Manitoba this week.

According to RCMP, officers responded Tuesday at around 12:15 pm to a report of a suspicious SUV on Highway 3 between Thornhill and Darlingford, Man.

Mounties said two men in a light blue BMW SUV with an Ontario license plate were stopped on the highway, flashing their vehicle lights and waving their arms to try and get other drivers to stop.

“Once stopped, the males approached the motorists and offered to sell them jewellery, such as watches and rings, or asked for money for gas stating they were not from the area,” RCMP wrote.

“No threats were made and nobody was injured but many of the motorists felt intimidated.”

RCMP said they’ve received reports from this area and in other places in southern Manitoba over the past week. They want the public to be safe and aware if pulling over to help someone.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the RCMP.

Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, explained the motivation behind the project, stating, “I wear a smartwatch to track my personal health, but I’ve found that a lot of people think smartwatches are unfashionable or bulky and uncomfortable. I also like to wear earrings, so we started thinking about what unique things we can get from the earlobe.”

CITRUS HEIGHTS – An arrest has been made after a massive jewelry heist in Citrus Heights earlier in February.

Citrus Heights police say, early in the morning on Feb. 5, a suspect smashed the doors of a store along the 6100 block of Sunrise Boulevard. Once inside, the suspect then started smashing jewelry cases.

Detectives believe the suspect stole more than $200,000 worth of jewelry, but an exact number of items has been disclosed.

Investigators identified the suspect as 52-year-old Edward Rushing. He was arrested on Wednesday, Citrus Heights police say.

Rushing is facing charges of felony burglary, grand theft, and conspiracy.

Police confirmed to CBS13 that Rushing was arrested in 2012 for stealing an estimated $2 million of gems and gold from the California Mining and Minerals Museum in Mariposa.

The case is still under investigation and detectives are still looking for more leads. Anyone with more information relevant to the investigation is urged to call the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers hotline.
