Baltimore man arrested for stealing $85,000 in jewelry | Journal-news
MARTINSBURG – Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department arrested a jewelry thief on Thursday, recovering $85,000 that he received from selling the jewelry.
Igor Rosensteel, 33, from Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested after he stole and sold approximately $85,000 worth of jewelry from his fiancé while he was housesitting while they were away.
While the culprit was unknown at first, deputies became suspicious of Rosensteel, who told officers his name was Cooper Ross before officers obtained a fingerprint scanner, finding out his true identity. Through investigation, deputies found that he sold the jewelry at a pawn shop.
Deputies are hoping to recover that jewelry soon.
Later, deputies learned that Rosensteel was on federal probation after being convicted in 2018 for impersonating a Secret Service agent in a credit card and identity theft scheme, where he posed as a federal agent to steal money from more than 15 victims.
“This was outstanding work conducted by our deputies. They took great initiative in this investigation, which led to an arrest of a person already on federal probation for similar violations,” Berkeley County Sheriff Rob Blair said. “This is just another example of the extraordinary work being conducted by our personnel at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.”
