Thailand’s Gemopolis Expands to Attract Global Jewelry Makers

Thailand is set to undertake a major expansion of its prominent jewelry manufacturing hub, with the Gemopolis industrial estate in Bangkok planning to add 38,000 square meters of production space to its Free Zone area. This development aims to attract more international manufacturers to the estate, which is already home to hundreds of companies from Thailand and abroad. The expansion will include eight new buildings, further solidifying the estate’s position as a key industrial cluster.
Expansion and Incentives for International Manufacturers
The planned expansion, which will include Free Zone buildings 7 through 14, is expected to be completed by 2031. The construction of the first four buildings, covering approximately 20,000 square meters, is slated to commence around June 2027. As international jewelry companies continue to assess manufacturing locations, costs, and supply-chain resilience, Gemopolis is positioning itself to capture future investment with its additional capacity. According to Gemopolis Managing Director Suttipong Damrongsakul, gems and jewelry companies will remain the primary targets for the new space, although the estate also aims to attract investment from high-technology, electronics, and medical-tool businesses.
Gemopolis currently hosts around 300 companies from 32 countries, with its manufacturing base encompassing not only jewelry but also gemstone cutting and setting, computer chips, medical equipment, and prescription lenses. This existing scale makes the expansion significant, and the estate’s intentions to attract a diverse range of industries will further enhance its manufacturing ecosystem. The estate’s Free Zone privileges, including exemptions from import duties and VAT on qualifying raw materials and finished jewelry, are designed to make Thailand a more attractive location for international producers.
Manufacturing businesses at Gemopolis can also qualify for four-year corporate income tax and dividend tax exemptions, and foreign investors are permitted to hold 100 percent ownership and directly own property within the project boundaries. An on-site customs office and one-stop service are available to assist companies with administrative and licensing requirements. Additionally, the estate provides support with company registration, work permits, visas, investment advice, training, and access to raw materials, making it an attractive option for both small specialist operations and larger production facilities.
Established Manufacturing Community
Pandora, the Danish jewelry group, is one of the most recognizable tenants at Gemopolis, having begun operations in 2005 and expanded repeatedly since then. Its Triple A facility, which opened in 2018, features flow-line manufacturing and has achieved LEED Gold certification. Other established jewelry manufacturers at the estate include Palaces Jewellery, Mousson Atelier, Galliana Creations, and Paterson Jewellery. Palaces Jewellery established its Gemopolis Free Zone factory in 2013, while Mousson Atelier has maintained a long-term presence at the estate. Galliana Creations expanded its Thailand production operations into the Gemopolis Free Zone in 2010, and Paterson Jewellery relocated its manufacturing business from Bangkok’s Silom district to Gemopolis in 2008.
BBJ Bangkok is another significant manufacturer at the estate, having developed from a gemstone sourcing operation into a vertically integrated jewelry manufacturer serving international brands. The company established a dedicated facility at Gemopolis in 2020 and has since relocated its factory production lines to the estate, expanding its vertically integrated operations. By 2022, BBJ Bangkok’s in-house team had grown to over 300 people, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the estate and its manufacturing capabilities.
Export Statistics and Manufacturing Diversification
Thailand’s gem and jewelry sector has substantial economic scale, with exports reaching $26.59 billion in 2025, according to data from the country’s Gem and Jewelry Institute. Excluding unwrought gold, exports totaled $13.59 billion during the same period. The Gemopolis manufacturing base extends beyond jewelry production to include gemstone cutting and setting, computer chip manufacturing, medical equipment production, and prescription lens fabrication, creating a diverse manufacturing ecosystem.
Specialized Production Capabilities and Global Logistics
Casa Jewels operates from the Gemopolis Free Zone, producing jewelry in gold, platinum, and silver, and combining traditional bench craftsmanship with modern technologies such as 3D modeling and direct casting from 3D printing. The company also provides gemstone sourcing, cutting, and recutting services for other manufacturers. Eurothai Argento, another manufacturer at the estate, produces and exports platinum, 9-18 karat gold, and sterling silver jewelry incorporating diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones, pearls, and cubic zirconia, with a monthly production capacity of up to 40,000 pieces.
Gemopolis benefits from its strategic location near Suvarnabhumi International Airport, connecting manufacturers with international airfreight routes while keeping production close to Bangkok and Thailand’s established jewelry workforce. Efficient international logistics are particularly important for manufacturers handling gemstones, precious metals, and relatively high-value finished products. The estate’s proximity to the airport, combined with its customs facilities, Free Zone privileges, and experienced Thai craftspeople, strengthens its proposition to companies considering where to establish or expand Asian production.
